WhatsApp's Official Business Account (OBA) is a prestigious recognition for brands and entities, indicating their authenticity and well-known presence. Here's what you need to know about OBAs, how to attain one, and what it means for your business.

Recognizing an Official Business Account

The Official Business Account receives a green checkmark badge on its profile.
In the chat list, chat screens, and contacts view, the business name is displayed instead of the phone number, even if the user hasn't added the business to their address book.
This checkmark signifies WhatsApp's verification that an authentic, reputable brand owns the account.

Obtaining Official Business Account Status

OBA status is not purchasable. It is conferred to selected businesses by WhatsApp based on specific criteria.

Notability: WhatsApp seeks well-known and frequently searched brands or entities. This does not reflect authenticity alone but also significant online presence, particularly in news articles from reputable publications (paid or promotional content is not considered).
Official business accounts are associated with specific phone numbers and display names.
If the display name is changed after obtaining OBA status, the account must go through the approval process again.
OBA approval for a WhatsApp Business Account does not extend to multiple numbers associated with that account, particularly if those numbers have different display names. For such cases, update the display names for child brands as follows: '{{sub-brand name}} by {{notable name}}' (e.g., "Wabo.ai by YourCompany").

Requirements for OBA Application

To apply for an Official Business Account, you must meet the following criteria:

Two-factor verification enabled for your WhatsApp API Number.
A valid Meta Business ID with a Verified Business Manager.
Adherence to WhatsApp's policies, especially its Commerce Policy.
Reach Quality Tier 2:
- The quality rating must be 'high' at the time of application.
- Minimum messaging limit is 1,000 messages.
Substantial presence in online news articles (at least 5 external media coverage links from reputable sources like newspapers and magazines).

Note: Your business verification must be completed before applying for OBA status.

Apply for a Green Tick

Go to the WhatsApp Channel on your Wabo.ai account.
Navigate to the Apply Green Tick section and click on the Apply for Green Tick button.
You will be redirected to your Business Manager:
- Navigate to Account Tools > Phone Numbers > Settings of the phone number for which you want the OBA status.
- Fill out the required information, including:
  - Business Website.
  - Reason for requesting OBA status.
  - Up to 5 supporting links showcasing the business's notability.
  - Business Name in its original language.
  - Facebook Page.
Once Facebook reviews your request, you will receive a notification regarding the outcome:
- If approved, your account is automatically upgraded to OBA status.
- If rejected, you can reapply after 30 days.

Denied Requests and Ongoing Growth

If your OBA request is denied, it indicates that WhatsApp's Meta team has reviewed your account and determined it’s not eligible for OBA status at the time.

While awaiting OBA status, businesses can enhance their online presence and reapply after a 30-day waiting period.

Business Profile Benefits

Even without OBA status, businesses have access to a Business Profile associated with each phone number. This profile includes details like:

Profile Picture.
Email Address.
Website.
Business Description.
